VERSIONS
One song. Every version.
Keep renders, mixes, masters, demos and alternates attached to the song they belong to. Search the song first; decide between versions second.
01
Find the song
Search the musical work, not a maze of filenames.
02
Compare versions
Keep alternates together and use ratings/listening context where available.
03
Move the winner forward
Promote the version you choose into an album or release workflow.
Keep the song and its files connected.
A demo, a revised mix and a delivery master can belong to one song while remaining separate files. A useful library preserves those differences and makes the next listening decision easier.
Add the folder containing your working files. Review the grouping and the names before deciding which files belong to the same song.
Expand a song to compare its versions. Use the version-specific information and ratings to distinguish a promising mix from an older render.
Correct a grouping when necessary. Keep the selected version identifiable before adding it to a shortlist or preparing a release.
Check before you continue
Grouping is a reviewable organization aid. Similar titles can refer to different songs; different titles can refer to the same work. Check the actual file and version before exporting or delivering it.
A demo, mix revision and master may sound different but belong to the same composition. A duplicate can be an extra copy of identical audio. Music Catalog lets you review the song grouping and keep distinct versions identifiable instead of treating every similarly named file as disposable.
Will importing a folder erase my older mixes?
The library is intended to organize and review existing files, not delete source masters during import. Treat any export or file-management operation separately and retain your original project backups before making irreversible changes elsewhere.
Can files with different names belong to the same song?
Yes. A rough demo might have a working title while the master has the release title. Review the grouping manually: file names are hints, not proof that two recordings represent the same musical work.
How do I choose which version belongs on my release?
Expand the song, listen to each version, consult ratings and per-version information, and identify a release candidate. The decision remains yours; verify the final mix, master and delivery requirements before exporting.
